Day 2 of Spring Training Trip: March 7, 2014

MaryvalePark

Friday was a travel day for us.  We were heading to Maryvale Baseball Park for our second day of Padres baseball.  Maryvale is the home of the Milwaukee Brewers and we would see Tyson Ross take the mound against Matt Garza.  We walked in and received Ben Oglivie bobble heads and set out to find the Bloody Mary stand.  The Brewers make the best Bloody’s in the Cactus League.  After finding the stand and properly doctoring them up to make them even spicier, we headed toward our seats.

It was hot, so we stood in the shade and finished our drinks and of course, went back for another round.

Settling into our seats we watched Tyson Ross shutdown the Brewers for 3 innings followed by Robbie Erlin for 2 innings.  The Brewers didn’t get a hit until the 6th inning and it was a ball lost in the sun.

Rico Noel of the Padres hit an inside-the-park home run and the Padres won the game 6-2 with the Brewers only getting 3 hits.

Steve Adler joined us for the last couple of innings and was happy to know Dave Freisleben owned one of his Oh Doctor! shirts.

After the game, we drove back to the hotel to relax before dinner.  Randy Jones contacted Dave to tell him he couldn’t make it tonight, but wanted to join us tomorrow.  Bobby Q’s was tonight’s dinner choice and as usual, it was excellent.  Our dinner started with Bloody Mary’s with a beef rib in it and it was delicious!

We ordered the whole hog dinner with beef brisket, pulled pork and pork ribs and topped off the dinner with a mud pie that Alex ate most of.

Back at the hotel, we opened another bottle of wine and smoked some cigars and just enjoyed each other’s company.  Dave and David are easy to talk to and make you feel welcome when you’re around them.  After an hour, it was time for bed and for the day we were all waiting for  – tomorrow, Dave Freisleben would be returning to the mound to toss the Ceremonial First Pitch and have it caught by his long-time friend and former teammate, Randy Jones. We couldn’t wait!

Meanwhile, we can share a little tidbit that Freisy didn’t know about. While Wayne was interviewing Dave on Thursday night, Rebecca started getting private messages from a friend of Dave’s (who asked to remain anonymous).  This friend thought it would be really fun for us to share a picture of Dave pitching back in high school and he/she was kind enough to send the picture.  Enjoy this very fun throw back pic of Dave pitching at Sam Rayburn HS in Pasadena, Texas!
