With the first half of the season in the books, let’s examine the Padres transactions thus far.

There have been 98 transactions.

The largest percentage (57%) has come from the back-and-forth movement between San Diego and Tucson. 10 Selections from AAA; 27 optioned to AAA; 19 recalled from AAA. It certainly is a quick trip to/from Tucson and that may make this frequency a bit more interesting with AAA being in El Paso next year.

If you follow the Padres, not much of a surprise that 59% of the transactions were related to Pitchers … but did you know that nearly 30% were five specific Pitchers? Leading the transactions with 7 is Brad Boxberger. Weber (now with Toronto) and Erlin each with 6; and Layne and Smith each with 5.

Nearly 28% of the transactions are DL-related … again, not much of a surprise there. 13 to the 15-day; 7 from 15-day; 4 to 60-day; and 1 from 60-day.

Less frequent … only 1 suspension (Quentin); 2 for paternity (to/from) – also Quentin. 7 were designated for assignment and 3 released or claimed. Only 1 acquisition (Ciriaco – who is also one of the 7 designated).
