Tucson Padres – The Last Stand

It is bittersweet to promote this homestand for the Tucson Padres. The “sweet” is that the management team – led by VP & GM Mike Feder – and staff have some fantastic events planned for all the fans including an appearance by the San Diego Chicken on Saturday, August 25.  The “bitter” is that it will be the very last time the Tucson Padres will play because the San Diego Padres AAA affiliate will be in El Paso starting with the 2014 season.

We made the trip to Tucson in June this year because we wanted to see what it was all about … to watch and meet the players who are so close to being called up or even on the 40-man roster. We did that and more. We fell in love with the team and the people who “make it happen” each and every day.  By the end of our three day stay, we had interviewed a dozen players, watched baseball games, visited with a friend and former Padre (Andrew Werner), and made new friends – it was a fantastic trip. Before we left we also decided that we would find a way to make it back for their last homestand. We knew we wanted to be there to pay tribute to all those who work tirelessly to make Minor League Baseball a success … it would be historical and likely very emotional … and we knew we wanted to be a part of it.

So here it is – the last stand …

August 21-25

The Tucson Padres play the Tacoma Rainiers (Mariners affiliate) August 21-25. The Rainiers have one of the best pitching rotations in Minor League Baseball, led by Taijuan Walker, who is scheduled to pitch Sunday.

August 26-29

The Tucson Padres host the Reno Aces (Diamondbacks affiliate) August 26-29. This is the franchise that used to call Kino Stadium home as the Sidewinders.

Sidenote

The San Diego Padres are in Phoenix, Arizona to play the Diamondbacks August 26-28. If you enjoy road games, why not take in a game or two at Chase Field either before or after visiting Tucson’s Kino Stadium?  Padres360 will be in Tucson August 27-29 … hope to see you there!
