Over the last couple of years, the Padres have acquired several pitchers who weren’t drafted by a major league club but instead signed with independent clubs with the hope that a regional scout might see him and sign him to a contract. Andrew Werner and Bryce Morrow both pitched for the Evansville Otters and signed with the Padres in just such a manner.
Once again, the Padres scouts found a potential gem in the Pecos League: Eric Yardley. Eric pitched for Seattle University but wasn’t drafted. He was offered an opportunity to pitch for the Taos Blizzards of the Pecos League for a salary of $50.00 a week. Two weeks after signing, the Blizzards folded and Eric signed with the Trinidad Triggers. A Padres scout saw Eric pitch and signed him to a contract with the Padres. The rest is history.
We spoke with Eric on Thursday, November 5, 2015, about the 2015 season and pitching in the Arizona Fall League. We hope you enjoy hearing from Padres prospect, Eric Yardley.
We were fortunate that Eric was called into pitch during the game. Below are a few pictures from his 4 pitch out to end the 8th inning.
We hope you will join us in following the pitching career of Eric Yardley.
