Drafted by the San Diego Padres in the 3rd round of the 2012 MLB draft, Fernando Perez has slowly developed into a power hitter at Second Base. Possessing quick hands in the field and a fast bat at the plate, Fernando has moved up through the system and spent the 2015 season playing for the Lake Elsinore Storm. His average was down this season (.224) compared to 2014 when he hit .284 for Fort Wayne but the Padres believe in him and decided to have Fernando play 6 weeks in the Arizona Fall League.
Fernando was selected to represent the Padres in the Bowman Batting Challenge, which took place on October 17.Despite hitting into the wind and rain, Fernando scored a total of 750 points and hit the ball extremely hard. He also took time to talk to the kids and sign autographs for fans after his turn was over.
We spoke to Fernando before Friday’s game (11/6/15), Peoria Javelinas vs. Surprise Saguaros at Salt River Fields at Talking Stick, and found him to be a very nice guy with terrific focus. We hope you enjoy hearing from Fernando Perez.
We also had a chance to see Perez play with the Peoria Javelinas vs. Scottsdale Scorpions at Scottsdale Stadium on Thursday, November 5.
We love the power and quickness that we have seen in Fernando and look forward to following his baseball career.
