Padres owner C. Arnholdt Smith sells the Padres for 12 million dollars to Joseph B. Danzansky. Danzansky gives Smith a $100,000.00 dollar check as a down payment and is granted 45 days to complete financial arrangements, secure a lease for RFK Stadium, and gain support from the National League owners. Several obstacles blocked the proposed sale.
