After Taco Tuesday at Lake Elsinore, we learned that the next day promotion (7/27/16) was going to be Double Dare Night, based on the classic Nickelodeon TV game show from the 1990’s. The show involved 2 teams made up of families, with one wearing red while the other wore blue. Each team would answer questions on a variety of topics and if you didn’t know the answer, you could chose to take a physical challenge, which involved in most cases lots and lots of slime! It was a fun show that the whole family could watch. As fans of the show, we decided we really wanted to see this in person, especially after hearing that the players would be wearing specially designed jerseys and socks for the night courtesy of NickSports.
For the night, Tyler Zickel dressed in a double breasted jacket and did his best impression of Marc Summers, leading fans chosen before the game in a variety of contests which included a water balloon toss into a bucket that was on the head of your teammate, knocking foam baseballs off your teammates head with a water gun, tossing foam baseballs and sponges into a sack worn by a teammate and a mascot race between the ever active dog Thunder and the Gorilla ending with a slide down a slip n slide to a flag! All the games were fun and some will end up becoming a part of future Storm in between inning activities.
However, the stars of the night were the players who took the field for the Storm wearing those beautiful jerseys, which came with a matching pair of socks. The pictures of the night say it all.
The game-worn jerseys were silent auctioned throughout the game or with a “Buy It Now” price of $90. We decided to buy 3 jerseys and all had the #3 in them; #3 Luis Urias, #23 Michael Gettys and #33 Glendon Rusch (below). We plan to wear ours to a Padres game very soon!
The Storm will be offering the other jerseys that weren’t sold on Double Dare night via an online and all the proceeds go to the Special Olympics. Check with the Lake Elsinore Storm for info about the auction of these awesome jerseys … you know you want one!
